Regenerative Orthopedic Case of the Week: Can stem cells regrow cartilage?? How durable is the treatment??

RS is a 68 year old male who came to see me in Sept, 2019, with right knee arthritis pain. Symptoms present for 18 months. Standing AP xrays showed notable arthritis with joint space loss and spurring in the lateral compartment of the knee. Joint space was 1.5mm thick (red xrays). After discussing treatment options, he decided to have stem cell treatment using stem cells from his own fat tissue.

He had significant improvement in pain symptoms and was able to return to all of his normal activities. He came in yesterday with gradual onset of recurrent pain 5 months ago. However, his pain now is still not as bad as it was before stem cell treatment. Standing AP xrays yesterday show lateral arthritis. But, his joint space thickness is almost double (2.9mm, green xrays) compared to before stem cell indicating increased joint space and cartilage! He had 5 years of notable improvement!!

Come see what regenerative orthopedics can do for you!!
