Regenerative Orthopedic Case of the week:

CJ is a 53 year old female presented with 6 months of left hip pain. Sharp pain about the outside of the hip that increases with walking, standing, stairs and at night. No improvement after 3 months of physical therapy.

On exam, she had notable tenderness of the lateral aspect of the hip and pain with resisted abduction of the hip. MRI showed high-grade partial tears of the gluteal tendons with some mild arthritis. She was referred to me by one of my surgical partners.

After discussing treatment options, she decided to proceed with high-dose PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection therapy. Today, 3 months out from treatment, her lateral hip pain symptoms are completely gone. She has been able to return to walking for exercise without any hip pain.
