Steroids & Anti-inflammatories May Lead to Chronic Pain, Study Shows

Tired of steroid injections and anti-inflammatory pills (NSAIDs)?

New Article: Steroids and Anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Celebrex, Mobic) may be more detrimental than we thought and potentially can lead to chronic pain. According to the authors, an inflammatory response at the acute stage of musculoskeletal pain acts as a protective mechanism against the development of chronic pain. Active inflammatory responses contribute to pain resolution. Drugs that inhibit inflammation might interfere with the natural recovery process, thus increasing the odds for chronic pain. Individuals with acute back pain were at 1.76-fold greater risk of developing chronic back pain if they reported NSAID usage (P = 2.0 × 10−5) than if they were not taking NSAIDs.
