The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting patients and healthcare providers in dramatic ways. Right now, the worst place for a person to go with joint pain, overuse injury or sports injury symptoms may be the emergency room as hospitals fill up with COVID-19 patients. Even leaving your home for treatment may unnecessarily expose you to the virus.

We understand that joint pain symptoms do not suddenly disappear during this time and people still need treatment for symptoms. Consequently, we’ve implemented Telemedicine in our practice so our patients can receive quality orthopedics care from the safety of their home.

We realize that there are many unknowns related to Telemedicine, so we’ve developed a list answers to common questions:

Telemedicine is a way for healthcare providers to treat patients virtually through video conferencing, with no need for the patient to visit the office in person.

We can assess musculoskeletal pain symptoms, provide an accurate diagnosis, determine if any symptoms require emergent or urgent care and provide treatment recommendations for most orthopedic related issues.

We are able to review MRI, X-ray or other imaging your may already have. This includes new referrals as well as second opinions. If you have been told you need joint replacement surgery, but the surgery has been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19, you may benefit from a virtual second opinion to determine if surgery is even necessary or you qualify for less invasive options or regenerative medicine.
Yes, in our practice all Telemedicine appointments are conducted by Dr. Steve Meyers, a sports medicine physician specializing in the non-operative treatment of all sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders. New patient consults are typically 30 minutes of face-to-face video conferencing with Dr. Meyers, not a physician assistant or nurse.

For patients with insurance, the typical co-pay for a Telemedicine consult can be as little as $20 – $60, depending on the insurance provider. During this COVID-19 outbreak however, many insurance providers are waiving the co-pay altogether. Please contact your insurance provider regarding coverage of telemedicine.
Our telemedicine consultations are conducted using your smartphone. For iPhone users, we use the Apple FaceTime app already installed on your device (no additional software needed). Android users will need to download the Google Duo video conferencing app before your appointment. Click here to download Google Duo.

“I had been struggling with debilitating foot and ankle pain for nearly a year. A previous physician wanted to do surgery. I came to Dr. Meyers and he and his team were able to treat my injuries conservatively. He listens and works to find the root cause instead of just treating the symptoms. I am now pain free and back to my normal activities.”

After 4 weeks of recovery, I started PT to the shoulder which was very well handled by David, giving me back full range of motion with no pain.”

    My Practice Philosophy

When I meet a new patient who is curious about how I practice Non-Operative Orthopedics, I tell them that in everything I do, from the first visit through follow up, I will treat them how I would want to be treated myself. As a former competitive athlete and an active adventure seeker today, I know first hand how much life can change with an injury or degenerative issue. My goal is to help your body recover from your injury, avoid re-injury and get you back into the game of life as soon as possible.
